This is Hailey! Hailey is 6 ½ and is a member of our Level 3 team! Hailey is an only child, but she has 2 cats to keep her company. A very interesting fact about Hailey is that she has a hairless cat! Hailey looks up to all the Olympic gymnasts. Hailey says, “They are so good at gymnastics!” Coach Shy loves working with Hailey. She says, “Hailey is so dedicated, and I can tell she really loves the sport!”

Meet Sydney! Sydney is 8-years-old and is on our level 3 team! Sydney has a twin brother named Brett, and a younger sister named Alyssa. A cool fact about Sydney is that she is the only twin in her entire school! Sydney wants to be just like her cousin Jenna one day because she is a level 10 gymnast in Wisconsin! Coach Shy says, “Sydney is a very hard worker and I can tell she really loves gymnastics!”

Meet Anne! Anne is 9-years-old and is a member of our level 4 team! Anna has a younger brother Sam, and a younger sister Alyssa. A very fun fact about Anne is that she has ridden the rip cord at Michigan Adventure… and she wasn’t even scared! Anne wants to take after her cousin Christina because she has a lot of medals! Coach Shy says, “Anne has a lot of natural gymnastics talent, and I can’t wait to see how far Anne will go!”

Meet Lindsey! Lindsey is 10-years-old and is a member of our level 4 team! Lindsey is the younger sister to Lauren who is 12. Something you might not know about Lindsey is that she lived in England for 2 years! Lindsey admires all of the Olympic gymnasts because they put in a lot of hard work and are super good! Coach Shy says, “Lindsey impresses me almost every day; she makes the sport look easy!”

Meet Bailey! Bailey is 9-years-old and is on our level 3 team! Bailey is the younger sibling to her 17-year-old sister, Ali. A cool fact about Bailey is that she has a house boat on White Lake! Bailey wants to be just like her Cousin Kylee one day because she is super nice, and really
pretty. Coach Shy says, “It is awesome how well Bailey fits in at R-athletics, and I can’t wait to see her compete at meets this year!”

Meet Bri! Bri is 15 years old. She competed level 9 last year and was a Eastern National Champion! Bri is working her level 10 skills in the gym. Bri’s favorite event is floor because it makes her feel powerful! Bri has a 13-year-old brother, Nick, and an 11-year-old sister,Taylor. A cool fact about Bri is that she has a “man made dimple” on her face. She was on beam one day and hit herself in the face with her knee! Bri admires her mom because she supports her gymnastics 100%. Coach Rachel says, “I’m so happy to have Bri back home in my gym, I look forward to taking her gymnastics to the next level! Bri is an incredible athlete!”

Meet 10-year-old Maggie! Maggie has competed level 5 and was the State Champion last season! She is now training her 5/6 skills in the gym. Maggie’s favorite event is Bars because she loves to swing around. Maggie is a sister to 11-year-old Lizi and 4-year-old Sarah. A fun fact about Maggie is that she has been to “Yummies” (an old fashioned candy store in Maine). Coach Audra says, “Maggie is an extremely talented gymnast who is very dedicated to the sport of gymnastics!”

Meet Kaia! Kaia started at R-Athletics in July and is training level 3 & 4 this year. Kaia loves to vault because she loves getting to jump on the board and because she can be very powerful! Kaia has a 1 year old brother named Caiden. Kaia also has her older sister Kennedy who is 10 years old. A fun fact about Kaia is that she loves to be outside playing. Kaia admires her older sister Kennedy because she is always willing to play with her. “Kaia is full of energy and works super hard to make corrections,” says Coach Shy.

This is Kennedy. Kennedy started at R-Athletics in July and is training level 4. Kennedy says that her favorite event is the floor exercise because she loves to do back handsprings! Kennedy is the older sister to Kaia, also on our R-Athletics Team. When Coach Shy asked a fun fact about Kennedy she answered, “I love doing gymnastics J” Kennedy admires her dad because he is the best dad in the whole world! Coach Shy says, “Kennedy is a hard worker and always wants to learn new skills!”

Meet Anna. Anna is 9 ½ years old. Anna joined the R-Athletics team in June and is training her level 4/5 skills. Anna’s favorite event is bars, because she loves working on her kips. A fun fact about Anna is that she loves playing with her friends in her spare time. Anna admires her mom
because she drives her to and from practice and is a great mom! The coaches love that Anna comes into the gym every day, ready to work. You can tell Anna really loves gymnastics.

Meet Elle. Elle is 9 years old. Elle came to R-Athletics in June and is training her 4/5 skills in the gym. Elle loves to work on floor because she loves to be aggressive in her tumbling. Something
that you might not know about Elle is that in her free time, she loves to play. Elle admires her mom because she is super nice and is very supportive of her gymnastics. The coaches love Elle because she is always making them laugh; but she also knows when it is time to get serious and work hard.

This is 7 year old Avery! Avery has competed level 4 and is training her level 5 skills in the gym. Avery says her favorite event is vault because she running at mats and the spring board. Avery has an older sister, Mackenzie who is 9 years old. Something cool about Avery is that she can always beat the boys in arm-wrestling contests! Avery admires her coach Kaylie because she is a great coach! Coach Kaylie says, “Avery is a very talented gymnast, and we can’t wait to watch her take her gymnastics even further this year!”

Meet Mackenzie. Mackenzie is 9 years old and is the older sister of Avery, also on the team. Mackenzie has competed level 5 and is training her level 5/6 skills in the gym. When Mackenzie was asked her favorite event she said, “Vault, because it’s so powerful!” A fun fact about Mackenzie is that she is always hungry . Mackenzie admires Maddie Myers on the gymnastics team because she is a super good gymnast! Coach Rachel says, “Mackenzie is always making me laugh… in a good way! She also is super talented and we look forward to her competing at R-Athletics this year!”

This is Hannah! Hannah is 10 years old and came to R-Athletics in July. Hannah has competed level 5 and is training her level 5/6 skills in the gym. Hannah’s favorite event is Bars because she loves to swing on things! Hannah has a younger sister Rachel, who is 7 and an older brother Andrew, who is 12. A cool fact about Hannah is that her birthday is on St. Patrick’s Day. The coaches all have come to love Hannah because she is a very hard worker, and is always putting 100% effort into her gymnastics.

Meet Brynn! Brynn competed level 4 last year and is working her level 4/5 skills in the gym. Brynn is the younger sister to 11-year-old brother, Andrew. Brynn’s favorite event is Bars because she likes to swing. Another reason she likes Bars is because she loves the fact that she has never gotten a rip! A fun fact about Brynn is that she has a kitten named Willow. When asked whom she looks up to Brynn said, “My mom and dad because they are great parents and drive me to and from gymnastics. Coach Rachel says Brynn has a lot of natural gymnastics talent!” We look forward to having Brynn on our R-Athletics Team this year!

This is 13-year-old Nicole! Nicole is training her level 7 skills in the gym. Nicole’s favorite event is floor because she loves to tumble and work on her leaps. Nicole is the younger sister to her 17-year-old brother Tyler. A really cool fact about Nicole is that on her free time she enjoys wakeboarding on Gun Lake. Nicole admires Shawn Johnson because she is just amazing, and great at gymnastics! The coaches all love Nicole because she is a super-hard worker, and always is making corrections! Welcome to the team Nicole!

This is Renee! Renee is an 8-year-old gymnast who competed level 4 last year. Renee is training level 4 and 5 in the gym. Renee’s favorite event is bars. She loves working her front-hip-circles, kips, stride circles and basically any skill that includes flying around the bar. Renee has a 20-year-old brother Jon and a 10-year-old brother Andrew. Renee also enjoys playing soccer and likes to collect shells. Renee admires her Mom and Shawn Johnson. Renee is a really
talented gymnast, who is fun to coach!

Meet Shae! Shae is 9 years old and competed level 4 last year. Shae is now training her level 4/5 skills in the gym. Shae says her favorite even is definitely the bars because she loves working on her kip! Shae is the younger sister to her two brothers. Something cool about Shae is that she has two horses to take care of when she isn’t at gymnastics. Her horses’ names are Tommy and Taffy. When asked who Shae admires, she said, “My cousin, Morgan because she is a super good gymnast!” Coach Shy says, “Shae has a lot of energy which she uses to do very powerful gymnastics!” We can’t wait to see Shae compete this year!

This is Alex! Alex is 10 and competed level 4 last year. Alex is now working her level 4/5 skills in the gym. Alex’s favorite event is floor because she loves to do back handsprings! Alex comes from a big family! She has three brothers, ages 2, 5, and 15. She also has one younger sister who is 6. Something you might not know about Alex is that she has 2 cats named Jade and Onyx. Alex admires her mom for several reasons. Alex says, “My mom is super supportive, a great cook, and drives me to gymnastics of course!” We are so glad to have Alex on our R-Athletics team!

Meet Evette! Evette competed once when she was 7-years-old, and she is now 9. Evette is training her level 3 and 4 skills in the gym. Evette’s favorite events are floor and vault. She likes floor because she loves back handsprings, back walkovers, and front walkovers. She loves the vault because she gets to use the trampoline! Evette has a 7-year-old sister and two step sisters who are 6 and 10. A fun fact about Evette is that her family calls her “Spaghetti.” Evette admires her mom because she helps her when she is hurt, and makes her amazing dinners! Coach Shy says, “Evette is a super-hard worker and will go far in the sport of gymnastics!”

New Team Members!

Meet 6 year old Jessalyn! Jessalyn competed level 4 last season and is now training level 4 and 5 skills in the gym. Jessalyn’s favorite event is Floor, because she loves to dance! Jessalyn has a 3 year old sister Elayna and a 9 year old sister Melody. Something you may not know about Jessalyn is she is double jointed. When asked, who she admires, Jessalyn answered; “Rachel Haines,” who is a level 10 Gymnast. Despite Jessalyn being at a young age, she trains extremely hard. Coach Kaylie said; “Jessalyn is such a hard worker. I don’t think she ever leaves the gym without a sweaty face and red cheeks. We are thrilled to have you Jessalyn!”

This is 11 year-old Danae. Danae is training level 4 and even some level 5 skills. Danae says that Bars has always been her favorite event, because it never makes her tired. She could do it all day. A fun fact about Danae is; her nick-name is “Nay- Nay.” Danae’s hero is; Melissa Mattson (an R-athletics’ gymnast.) She admires Melissa because she has fun, but still works really hard. Coach Alyssa said; “Danae has made incredible progress and is an intense worker.”

Meet 9 year old Chantel! Chantel is on the same team as her sister Danae. She is also training level 4 and some level 5 skills. Chantel’s favorite event is floor, because she is good at it. Something Chantel also enjoys is dancing. Chantel admires her mom, and wants to be like her someday. Coach Alyssa said; “Chantel does everything that is asked of her and is willing to try anything. She has so much talent!”

Aubrey is a 10 year old at R-athletics. Aubrey has competed one level 5 meet and is working level 5 & 6 skills in practice. Aubrey loves bars, because she improves quickly on them and she enjoys being aggressive. Aubrey has a 17 year old sister and a 15 year old brother. An interesting fact about Aubrey is; she loves winter not summer, because she loves school! Aubrey’s hero is Shawn Johnson. Coach Kaylie said; “Aubrey is eager to make corrections and is persistent at perfecting her gymnastics skills.”

This is 6 _ year old Kyler Dixon. Kyler is training level 3 & 4 in the gym. She has a 9 year-old brother named Carston. A fun fact about about Kyler is; she loves to climb! When asked who Kyler admires, she responded with: her mom, because she made her, and without her mom she wouldn’t even be alive. Kyler’s coach Alyssa said; “Kyler keeps the gym energy high and positive!”

Veronica is an 8 year-old, level 5 gymnast. Veronica’s favorite event is floor because she loves to do back-handsprings. Veronica has a 10 year old sister Victoria. A fun fact about Veronica is that she recently swam with dolphins in Mexico! Veronica admires her mom and dad because they are very nice. Coach Alyssa said; “Veronica is a fun gymnast to coach and she enjoys working really hard. We are glad to have you Veronica!”

Rec ‘n’ Rollin Open House!

What a great day!!! The sun was shinning, the coaches and volunteers were ready, and the kids were pumped! The kids spent the day swinging on the bars, jumping in the pits, tumbling, dancing, and playing games; while the parents drank coffee, toured the facility, and watched all the fun from our upper viewing area. After the time in the gym, families spent time outside sliding down the inflatable slide, playing with the parachute, getting their faces painted, getting up-dos, and then finished the day off with some refreshments. Families went home with Orange balloons in their hands and a smiles on their faces!

We Have Come So Far!

After looking through literally hundreds of pictures of R-Athletics construction, I figured I should find a way to better document our progress. The development of the building came with lots of research, time, sleepless nights, and most importantly, with a great team of people! R-Athletics’ state-of-the-art facility came to life….from dirt to greatness where kids, for years to come, will learn gymnastics, create friendships, and grow as people. I am honored to be a part of such a great project!

Meet 4 R-Athletics Team Members!

This is Kaitlynne! Kaitlynne is a 7-year-old at R-Athletics who is training level 4 in the gym. Kaitlynne started gymnastics at a very young age and continues to have a passion for the sport. Kaitlynne’s favorite event is bars, because, “It makes you so strong,” says Kaitlynne. Kaitlynne has a 5-year-old brother named Cameron. She also has 2 dogs and a salt-water fish at home. Kaitlynne admires her Grandpa, because he is so goofy! Kaitlynne is a positive girl, who has a lot of energy, and is willing to try anything!

Meet Erin! Erin just turned 11 this month. Erin last competed level 6 and is working towards level 7. Erin’s favorite event in Gymnastics is bars because she loves to be powerful! Erin has a twin brother named Ben. Something interesting about Erin is: people always tell her she has strong physical features from her dad’s side and her mom’s side. Erin strongly admires her parents because they are always there for her. Erin is a fun kid to coach. Erin loves perfecting her skills, and loves to work hard. We’re glad to have you at R-Athletics, Erin!

Meet Noelle! Noelle is 10 years old. Noelle competed level 5 last year; and is now training her level 6 skills. Noelle’s favorite gymnastics event is Floor, because she loves to tumble! Noelle has one 9-year-old sister, Grace, who is also a team gymnast at R-Athletics. A fun fact about Noelle is: she is flexible. Noelle admires her mom for always helping her out when she needs it. Noelle is a very determined gymnast, who is always trying to achieve new skills. We are excited to have Noelle on our team!

This is Grace! Grace is the other Kessler that is on the R-athletics team. Grace is 9 years old. She last competed level 4 and is now working towards level 5. Grace loves the bars because it is fun and it challenges her. A fun fact about Grace is that she likes dogs; especially her dog. Grace also admires her mom, because she is really nice. Grace is a driven gymnast, who is sets goals for herself and goes after them. Grace is a great addition to our team!

At the Mills meet this past weekend the Level 5 & 6 teams finished their season on a high. The Level 7′s are looking stronger than ever as they prepare for the State Meet in April.

1st Day in the NEW Gym- March 15, 2010

The day we’ve all been waiting for has finally come! On March 15, 2010 R-Athletics held our first team practice in our brand new state-of-the-art facility! It was a day of celebration to say the least.

We talked to the girls about how important the support beams are to the foundation of the building. We related the families, coaches and kids of R-Athletics to the support beam. Each athlete and coach signed the support beam as symbolism of being the foundation that R-Athletics was built upon and the importance of each person doing their part to uphold the team.

There was a whole lot of fun trying out all the new tramps and pits…and we got some work done too!
